A Peek Into Heimtextil: Dark Lux

Comments (0)

Earlier this month, several members of the RoomMates team went overseas with our parent company, York Wallcoverings, to attend the 2012 Heimtextil trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany. In this post, we’ll continue to explore just a few of our Heimtextil findings, and talk about how you may see these trends coming to light in this year’s new home and wall décor offerings.

One trend explored in this year’s Heimtextil was called “Dark Lux,” or as the organizers described it, the “beauty of the night.” Products that followed this trend combined very dark colors like black, rich browns, and deep purples with embellishments and shining accents in shades of silver, gold, and champagne. This meeting of “severity and elegance” was described by our team as very luxurious. We also saw an abundance of textures, like sand, glitter, glass, and gems, along with embossing and raised surface prints, especially in the area of wallcoverings.

Here are a few examples of items we found at the show that followed this trend:

Although the “Dark Lux” trend may look expensive—get a load of those padded walls!—there’s no reason you should have to empty your wallet to stay current. You can bring this style into your home with the simple addition of an ornate black frame, an oversized mirror, a few new pillows, or even a wall decal. Our new Chandelier Giant Wall Decal with Gems allows you to add instant elegance and flair by combining an elegant black chandelier silhouette with silvery peel & stick gems. Though we’ve shown it here on a bold pink wall, this design could certainly add a subtle touch in a room painted purple, brown, or cobalt blue (one of my all-time favorite shades!). There are easy and inexpensive ways to bring a little bling into your home if you just know where to look.

Do you like “Dark Lux,” or do you think this new trend is too gloomy? Do you plan on bringing a little bit of luxury into your home décor this year? Let us know what you think! And be sure to check back again soon for another post on Heimtextil, this time exploring some of our favorite themes from the show, including peacocks, cityscapes, and… Marilyn Monroe?! You won’t want to miss this one!
