The creativity of our customers never fails to amaze us! We've already posted one project involving our Tree Branches Wall Decals, a family tree idea contributed by Jaime, but Carol sent in an amazing twist on this idea using the same set of decals. We loved her own family tree concept so much that we just couldn't resist posting it here! Carol, a first time customer of RoomMates, sent us some great pictures of her project, and wrote us with the following:
This was my first time using this product. I have been wanting to paint a tree on this wall for months, but was afraid I wouldn't like the finished product, and would then have a mess to remove. I was also planning to keep this "family tree" around for years. Solution... RoomMates. [...] I went searching online for a vinyl tree that I liked. There are a million out there but this one caught my eye. I also knew that I could order two sets and make it even bigger which is what I did. I just placed the trunks side by side and worked my way up and out from there.
Let's take a look at the finished product:
To begin her project, Carol combined two packs of the Tree Branches wall decals into one larger tree. As you can see, this means not only more branches, but also more leaves. This is where the creativity really kicked in: to create her “family tree” effect, Carol cut small birds (to represent family members) out of the extra leaves, then placed them on the tree. As she explains:
I knew I wanted to add one bird per family member, and to be able to add more in the future as our family grows. This set comes in single pieces, which made that easy to do. I made myself a pattern for the bird, and used it to cut them out of some of the leaves. [...] We are a "birds of a feather flock together" kind of a family. I also saved leaves for my two future son-in-laws and future grandchildren.
Here's a look at Carol's stencil, as well as a close-up of one of her birds on the tree. You'll notice that she chose to cut the leaves away from the larger liner sheets—this definitely makes it easier to both work with and store the extra leaves!
RoomMates are an ideal choice for family tree projects such as this one. Since every element is repositionable and reusable, the design is non-permanent and can be changed easily at any time. In Carol's case, this means she can add more leaves or birds as her family grows, or reposition the branches on the walls. This also allows the tree to be moved to a new location, should that be necessary. Our wall decals are way more flexible than stencils and paint!
Many thanks to Carol for sending in pictures of her amazing project!
